Redeyef est une ville du sud-ouest de la Tunisie, bâtie sur un sol riche en phosphate et devenue, en 1900, l’un des plus importants centres miniers du pays.
Tout au long du siècle dernier, elle fut le creuset d’une exploitation intense et d’innombrables soulèvements syndicaux.
L’association Siwa rencontre Redeyef en 2011, au cœur d’une période de mobilisation décisive durant laquelle les habitants, en lutte depuis trois ans, ont écarté le pouvoir pour s’administrer d’eux-mêmes.
En 2014, l’économat, ancien magasin général des mineurs, est réinvesti. Depuis lors, le bâtiment est entretenu collectivement, en place d’un laboratoire artistique et citoyen au sein de la ville.
Ici, 3 répertoires musicaux s’enchevêtrent et cohabitent spontanément : complaintes des tribus bédouines (notamment Ouled Sidi Abid, Ouled Esmaia, Ouled Slama), chants et poèmes du labeur minier, psalmodies soufies.
Ces collectages, réalisés en bonne intelligence avec les habitants, donnent à entendre quelques-unes des voix singulières, engagées et multiples de Redeyef.

Redeyef is a town in south-western Tunisia, built on phosphate-rich soil, which became one of the country's most important mining centres in 1900.
Throughout last century, it was the scene of intense exploitation and countless union uprisings.
The Siwa Association met Redeyef in 2011, in the midst of a decisive period of mobilisation during which the inhabitants, who had been struggling for three years, pushed aside the authorities and took charge of their own affairs.
In 2014, L’Economat (the commissary), the former miners' general shop, was reinvested. Since then, the building has been maintained collectively, in place of an artistic and civic laboratory within the city.
Here, 3 musical repertoires intermingle and cohabit spontaneously: laments of the Bedouin tribes (in particular Ouled Sidi Abid, Ouled Esmaia, Ouled Slama), mining work songs and poems, Sufi psalmodies.
These collections, made in close collaboration with the inhabitants, give voice to some of the singular, committed and multiple voices of Redeyef.
